I;m working through the Gems on VHS youtube channel. "GemsOnVHS is a long running series of intimate, off-stage performances by songwriters we love." -- I really love people just playing instruments and singing with minimal production, and that's what I get from Gems on VHS. There's a lot of great music there, but here are some recent standouts:

Cat Clyde - All the black
    That voice!

Nick Hans - Highballin' everywhere I go
He manages to turn a potentially hum-drum tune into something that drives along.

    Dwight Hawkins - Hey whiskey
Everything about this is amazing. The hard finger picking, the song, all of it.

Sabine McCalla - Tall lonesome cowboy
I can't work out why she's not famous yet. Have a listen to Baby, please don't go.
I'm also trying to find more music not in English. Here's Juan Cirerol - La muchacha de las tierras lejanas

Art of Noise. I'm noticing a synth wave growing and this is my favorite 80's group. In No Sense? Nonsense! is a classic.
