BROCKHAMPTON - ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE

This is BROCKHAMPTON's sixth studio album, and as a hardcore fan, I think it's their best. It perfectly blends just about every sound they've ever tried before, and succeeds. The album includes more features than any of their previous work, which had the potential to be a bad thing but I think they pulled it off well (Danny brown and Peggy KILL it). The in-house production sounds amazing, much cleaner than some of their previous work (which might actually be a turnoff for some longtime fans, but I quite enjoy it).

This is also their most emotionally focused album. They've always been very open and introspective in their lyrics, but this album is primarily focused around the suicide of Joba's father. Joba has some absolutely heartbreaking performances here -- I might go as far to say that he's the "star" of the album, absolutely deserving of his place on the album cover.

Kevin Abstract tweeted that we're getting another BROCKHAMPTON album this year, and that that will be the last one. I hope he's lying, but if this is really the end, what a way to go out.

I listened to quite a bit of Porter Robinsons stuff, and was overjoyed with his Secret Sky set that came out this year. Absolutely brilliant mix, far better than last years. I thought his latest album was a bit sub-par compared to Worlds, but after listening to the mix it was definitely an album made to be mixed with Worlds. On it's own, relatively decent, but mixed and put together? Absolutely majestic.

His side project, Virtual Self, is some of his best work so listened to quite a bit of that as well, and that reminded me, as usual, of a little known persona of Halley, who came out with this amazing album called Wanderlust by The Quick Brown Fox. in 2014. Halley (Previously known as Renard) is a musician who has a 'record label' called Halley Labs (Previously Lapfox, Previously Previously Vulpvibe), which is just a dozens of their personas and aliases all making different music. Their stuff goes back a little over a decade with over a hundred albums, and that's about how long I've been listening to it. But TQBF is by far their best stuff. Virtual Self and Worlds were definitely inspired by TQBF in their sound.

Been listening to Deadmau5 a lot more as well, has always been my default for programming - and I have been doing a lot of it.

I've also just in general been listening to a lot of house, ambient, and jazz lately. Which seems to be more and more on rotation lately.

I'm putting together an 80's workout montage playlist for when I am working out. Doing a lot of consolidation and curation on various Spotify playlists.
