Well, it was American Independence Day this week, and most of us had Monday off work to celebrate. We ended up listening to a lot of John Phillip Sousa because he wrote a lot of patriotic songs. If you can get past all the bad marching band performances of his work that you were forced to sit through as a kid, there’s some really great stuff in his repertoire. Many of his pieces have a similar structure to the 4-part chorales Bach used to write. There’s lots of great harmony and melody in there, even if the rhythm of a march is kind of stiff.

She's an Iranian born Israeli so I didn't understand a word of it, but I generally prefer using my imagination than listening to what lyrics say, unless they're really abstract lyrics. I don't think you can get more abstract than a language you don't understand ;)

After a couple of listens my favourite track is Shab Gerye which gave me a strong Khruangbin vibe.

Indeed the last track on the Liraz set live on KEXP is a cover off Khruangbin's latest album! She looks how I imagine a Persian princess in an Arabian nights story.
