An interesting story about Christopher Cross

My family moved, from New England (USA), to North Carolina in 1979. I was a young boy at the time, athletic/outgoing and was eager to play with new friends.

I met a boy that lived not too far from me in the apartment complex we resided in. We would ride bicycles, skateboard, swim, and build forts together.

Christopher Cross' debut hit album was released that same year and was starting to get heavy rotation on the radio. I remember hearing his music all the time during this period of time. If you want a refresher of one of his biggest hits, then listen to Sailing.

I can't recall, precisely, how the conversation came up with my new boyhood friend. However, when the boy told me that Christopher Cross was his father I just couldn't believe it. He urged me to come to his apartment to hear it from his mother.

Long story short, his mother (Roseanne Harrison) confirmed that she had recently separated from Cross. I do recall that she said Cross wasn't sending enough financial support. Mrs. Harrison was working all the time trying to provide for her son while Cross had millions of dollars living in Bermuda.

My new friend and Mrs. Harrison were deeply hurt and bitter, understandably.

That is, in fact, quite interesting. Did you keep up with the kid?

We only lived in that apartment complex for that particular summer. Then my parents moved us across town and I lost touch.
