      According to Marin, the fence’s main purpose would be to help border guards monitor and prevent possible large-scale illegal migration seen as a hybrid threat from Moscow.

They are being cynically used as weapons in Belarus dictator Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s hybrid war against the EU, and their worsening plight represents a potential humanitarian cisis.

      In response to the migrant build-up in Belarus, Poland has deployed around 17,000 soldiers to the border zone, where they are facing off against a growing Belarusian military presence. Warsaw has also announced plans to build a border wall and is considering closing the border with Belarus entirely.

        Was that first part in the article? I did click through but it was only giving me one paragraph, which I thought was just because it was a breaking news soundbite, but now that I look at it again seems like it may be because the outbrain ads have glitched over the rest…
