Trump in a nutshell. I honestly don't understand how this is being allowed. He is willfully and arrogantly caught lying (at worst) or is simply too dumb to realize he is taking both sides (at best). Why is nobody pushing for impeachment? Bill Clinton got impeached for consentual oral sex. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

I don't get it either. On top of the weekly impeachable offenses, he literally said he fired the director of the FBI because he wouldn't stop investigating Russian collusion. Textbook obstruction of justice, straight from the horse's mouth. That was a year and a half ago.

I get that the Mueller investigation is a thing, and that these kinds of probes take time, but it's not like there's not half a hundred other things he could have been ousted for in the meantime, while allowing the investigation to continue.

Just the other day he got on twitter and said he wanted to remove due process from illegal immigrant proceedings. How is literally saying you want to remove due process not an impeachable offense?...

Just the other day he got on twitter and said he wanted to remove due process from illegal immigrant proceedings. How is literally saying you want to remove due process not an impeachable offense? Why is nobody taking action against this stuff? I feel like in the past presidents would go down for such simple things. It may not be entirely true, but people attribute Howard Dean's failure to him screaming like a mule. Donald Trump talked about grabbing a girl by the pussy. It's asinine.

It feels like he's running the gish gallop, but with impeachable offenses. Commit so many of them so often and so quickly that nobody has the time to focus on taking him down for any one offense. Unless Russian meddling has gone far deeper than any of us suspected, I seriously don't understand why republicans haven't gotten rid of him yet. Pence would give them everything they want without Trump doing (hopefully) irreparable damage to their brand.

Mainly because voting for impeachment requires a majority in the house, then a supermajority in the senate, and both of these are currently GOP-controlled

It's allowed because the party in control benefits, and the electorate is unable to properly deal with the advancements in propaganda and misinformation. The only way to fix that is to create a highly critical electorate that can deal with how complex the world has become. That's only going to happen if we accidentally transform American culture into something that values science, skepticism, and reason. Although how that's accomplished is a mystery and likely won't happen.

First and foremost, because both the House and Senate are majority Republican and will not impeach a Republican president. Its party politics and therefore their team must win at any and all costs.

The second reason I strongly suspect is that some of them are complicit in some of the same crimes Trump has allegedly committed. I feel confident in saying that Cambridge Analytica provided 'assistance' in more ways than one to a great many of them over years. In addition, the tangled web of funding from what are likely nefarious sources hidden from view may well come into play.

If any of you missed the expose about Cambridge Analytica and just how deep it goes into political skulduggery both in the US and abroad I highly recommend giving this a watch by Channel 4 which is a publicly owned British Public Service Broadcaster.

It's a pattern isn't it? He says one thing to you, while you're there physically, and then when he's had time to think what happened he lets twitter know how he really feels.

Still, he added, maybe Trump didn’t think it through.

I think that's one of the main issues- just the fact that he opens his mouth and says whatever he's thinking at that exact moment. I think that's compounded by the fact that he doesn't seem to have many established beliefs or guiding principles (aside from self-promotion), so there's no internal guide or check or motivation to what he's going to say, regardless of the consequences. He seems to firmly believe that anything that he says is true, period, regardless of whether he contradicts himself immediately.

One of the most concerning things to me about him (aside from his personality, politics, lack of empathy etc) is that I'm not even sure that he really understands that he contradicts himself. Even when he's on tape (as here) saying something diametrically opposed to what he believes he said, there's a cognitive/emotional gap in which he'll doubt the source (even when it's himself). I don't doubt his maliciousness or self-importance or his overwhelming need to try and manipulate people, but I do think that he actually is having cognitive issues.

I'm starting to think Trump may be a genuine embodiment of a philosophical zombie; he has no consciousness except via denying the validity of others' consciousness. There's no apparent continuity of experience, just an endless stream of reactions, often contradictory.
