      I'm increasingly convinced that the DNC needs to be destroyed, even after the spectacular 2016 loss they seem committed to being the party of corporations + a few socially progressive policies. In addition to being morally repugnant it's not a strategy that's going to win elections. If they don't change, I imagine Trump is going to win a second term (and if he doesn't then the right will rebound with furry and run and win with an open fascist in 2024, or something like that). Hell, I'm not even sure they'll manage to take the house in November, something which should be incredibly easy if it wasn't for the Dems' ability to consistently self-sabatoge.

          Combine that with the fact that American “centrists” already claim that the Democrats are too left‐wing for them

          That's true, but I question how many actual centrists there actually are. My intuition is that the DNC could mobilize vast numbers of people who don't currently vote at all if they ran on an actual progressive platform, far far more than they possibly gain by sticking to the center and courting centrists and republicans.
