Jesus Christ, we're really going to do this stupid fucking parade, aren't we. We could address 40,000 homeless veterans -- or deal with 20 veteran suicides every day. But no, let's spend that cash...

Speaking of veterans, I posted this article when it came out, but I think it's an absolutely insane discovery that should have gotten far more attention than it did: The Shadow Rulers of the VA -...
Infuriating that this will be evergreen. We never have more money for healthcare. We never have more money for education. We never have more money for the poor. Fuck, we never even have more money...
We never have more money for healthcare. We never have more money for education. We never have more money for the poor. Fuck, we never even have more money for vets. But we always have more money to outspend the rest of the fucking world on the military.
Still dont think its a good idea to waste fuel on this shit but I guess the pads will keep them from tearing up the streets.
The official also said that experts put to rest concerns about whether the Abrams tank, which weighs just shy of 70 tons, would ruin infrastructure in Washington. Their analysis found that, because of the vehicle's distributed weight and track pads, the streets of the nation's capital would not be compromised.

Q: Are there any streets that I can’t travel on in the District?
Yes. The District has a number of historic neighborhoods with streets that are not designed to support heavy vehicles. Trucks are restricted from traveling on these and many other residential streets. In addition, there are areas of the District where trucks are prohibited for security reasons, such as the US Capitol. For a full list of restrictions please refer to the routing map on godcgo website. Please read all signage carefully when operating in the District.
Q: What are the maximum weight limits for vehicles in the District of Columbia?
Unless otherwise posted the maximum weight limits for vehicles and combinations are as follows:
Maximum Vehicle Weights
Weight on any one axle 21,000 pounds [18-2505.1]
Weight on any two consecutive axles less than 10 feet apart 34,000 pounds 34,000 pounds
Q: Is a police escort required when moving an oversized or overweight load?
Yes for:
Any vehicle and load that is 75 feet in total length or longer
Any vehicle and load 12 feet wide or wider
Any vehicle and load exceeding 13 feet – 6 inches in height
Any vehicle with a total gross weight of 120,000 or more
Any vehicle carrying any Class 1 Explosives - Division 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3
Anyone even remotely aware of DC traffic is aware of what a fucking nightmare this is going to be, even assuming no damage to historic sites or infrastructure.
Axle loading is a little misleading since an Abrams is tracked; its ground pressure is less than an SUV's, and it has rubber track blocks. That said, unless it moved at a low, constant speed in a...

(and I hope my comment doesn't give the impression that I think this parade is anything but completely stupid)
I may be late to this. Just a devils advocate thought: Those regs are really referring to the fact that vehicles of a certain weight cant just go through the town wherever they want. Just like any...
I may be late to this. Just a devils advocate thought: Those regs are really referring to the fact that vehicles of a certain weight cant just go through the town wherever they want. Just like any other well thought out town the streets that would have heavy traffic are reinforced. Not so they can support tanks but just that there is less settling over time that would require more frequent repairs.
The parade (which now isnt happening) isnt just normal traffic that the road cant support day after day. This was something that was only gonna happen once. Im sure they looked at the routes and considered the effect before submitting their recommendation to the WH. Whether or not that was heeded is an argument for another time ;)
Jesus Christ, we're really going to do this stupid fucking parade, aren't we.
We could address 40,000 homeless veterans -- or deal with 20 veteran suicides every day.
But no, let's spend that cash just walking down a street.

Every episode of America is jumping the shark.

It's frustrating it really is.
Average semi ~ 80k lbs. Average Abrams tank ~ 140k lbs. I wonder how much weight DC streets are rated for.
Still dont think its a good idea to waste fuel on this shit but I guess the pads will keep them from tearing up the streets.
