My Aunt did this about 6 years ago. her mom was invalid for 10 years and she refused to put her family through that. Went out with her boots on. Literally she picked out the dress and shoes she wanted for her funeral, among other things.

Yeah, my mom has been having health difficulties on and off for a while, and she says she's just going to walk out into the woods when she decides it's time. I'm hoping we have legalized assisted suicide (in California it's up in the air right now due to a court overturning the first version to be signed) so that I don't have to go through all the the missing person paperwork if she does.
I've asked her to make her way out with a method that'll have less paperwork involved, but I think she likes the idea of the woods taking her back.
