    So, I have never really understood the point of doing something like this, the most recent American example was Obama apologizing to Japan for the atomic bombs.

    But, it's not like the Obama administration carried out the attack, or even the current government. The majority of the current population of the country had nothing to do with WWII (and were not even alive), nevermind the atomic bombs.

    Sure, I guess it's a nice gesture. But isn't it a hollow and meaningless gesture being carried out 75 years after the fact?

    ...or am I just way to cynical?
