So before, these kids were in private rooms, now they live in tents in a desert

Before they had two or three roommates, now they share their tent with 20 other kids

Before they were getting regular schooling, now they have none

Before they had access to legal services, now they have none

Before these kids would be claimed by relatives, now these adults are getting arrested and deported when they come forward so the kids are left in custody indefinitely

These children are being threatened, beaten, sexually assaulted, raped, and denied medical care by representatives of our government.

Based on the documents, among other examples, the report alleges that CBP officials ran over a 17-year-old with a patrol vehicle and then punched him several times; denied a pregnant minor medical attention when she reported pain, which preceded a stillbirth; subjected a 16-year-old girl to a search in which they "forcefully spread her legs and touched her private parts so hard that she screamed;" and threw out a child's birth certificate and threatened him with sexual abuse by an adult male detainee.

These children are being forced to take psychotropic drugs to zonk them out because of how traumatized they are.

I cant imagine the trauma these children are facing. They are being treated like animals by our government and it disgusts me. I can't imagine how anyone can justify this behavior other than blind rage and hate.

It's time to call a spade a spade...the Trump administration is engaged in ethnic cleansing along the US-Mexico border.

Now, an argument can be made that it's "diet ethnic cleansing" compared to the Rohingya in Myanmar, the Uyghurs in western China, or Rwanda and Yugoslavia in the 90s. But it's a difference of degree, not of kind.

The Final Report of the Commission of Experts established pursuant to Security Council Resolution 780 defined ethnic cleansing as "a purposeful policy designed by one ethnic or religious group to remove by violent and terror-inspiring means the civilian population of another ethnic or religious group from certain geographic areas".

Do you care about chickens in a coop or cows in a pen? Of course not. These are just migrants in a tent. Big deal. Its not like they're actually people. /s Or least that's what they've been trying...

Or least that's what they've been trying to ingrain in our minds for a while now. And its totally working.

I'm having increasing difficulty getting the phrase "concentration camp" out of my head on hearing these stories.

I know some distinctions remain with respect to the historical extremity of World War II slave labor and extermination facilities, but we are holding children in inferior conditions dangerous to their health, there has been abuse, torture, and death...

I want to stop posturing about "Resistance", but haven't the faintest idea what effective action consists of other than sending as much money as I can to IRC, ACLU, Human Rights Watch, and a slew of Democratic Party candidates.

Have other countries spoken out about America's treatment of migrants? Unless i've missed something it appears the international community have turned a blind eye.

The UN Human Rights Council has spoken out against the Trump administration for its treatment of migrant children specifically. I believe our treatment of these kids contributed to the US pulling out of that council.

That practice “amounts to arbitrary and unlawful interference in family life, and is a serious violation of the rights of the child,” Ravina Shamdasani, a spokeswoman for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, based in Geneva, told reporters.

“The U.S. should immediately halt this practice of separating families and stop criminalizing what should at most be an administrative offense — that of irregular entry or stay in the U.S.,” Ms. Shamdasani said.

For the United Nations, it was a matter of great concern that in the United States “migration control appears to have been prioritized over the effective care and protection of migrant children,” Ms. Shamdasani said.

The United States is the only country in the world that has not ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, she noted, but the practice of separating and detaining children breached its obligations under other international human rights conventions it has joined.

“Children should never be detained for reasons related to their own or their parents’ migration status. Detention is never in the best interests of the child and always constitutes a child rights violation,” she said, calling on the authorities to adopt noncustodial alternatives.

This is cruel & sick. Honestly the American government just seems hell bent on "winning" in these situations. Zero-sum game, doubling down & a complete inability to think laterally or innovate.
