This is really significant as Trump and the FAA are basically the last major hold outs from grounding the 757 MAX 8.

It was reported previously that the Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg spoke with Trump yesterday morning and urged the President not to ground the planes, despite the numerous other countries doing so.

Muilenburg has also been trying to court Trump's favor with donating $1 million to Trump's inauguration campaign, having multiple visits to Mar-a-lago, and inviting Trump to Boeing's facilities for unveilings.

It was also reported that Trump's government shutdown caused a significant weeks long delay in getting a fix to the MAX 8's software out, and that numerous US pilots have recently reported issues with the MAX 8 to federal authorities.

This has been a real clusterfuck for the US and had any of these plans crashed, there would have been real blood on the hands of Trump and the administration. This really shows how dangerous it is when we let industry get to buddy buddy with the government agencies that are supposed to be regulating them, and puts a particular focus on the corruption that Trump and his regime are engaged in on a regular basis.

So, bribery? It sounds like this is just bribery with extra steps. Goddam it i can tell this whole thing is gonna be another long, corrupt, bumbling chapter in the Trump regime isn't it? How has news of the utter fraud of the Trump presidency not percolated down to his base? When will they realize that what they see as "swamp draining" and "sticking it to the establishment" is actually baldfaced corruption which is accelerating the decline of the working class?

I cannot tell from all this is it the FAA grounding the aircraft and Trump announcing it, or if Trump is supplanting any FAA decision on the matter

If you ask me, this is a good move. Even there is not a problem with the planes, the precautionary principle still applies. Better to ground the planes when they are safe rather than fly them when...
