Does this really surprise anyone anymore or am I just jaded?

Chicago PD has come under fire for misguided raids, but surprisingly, this was the second time in a week that they broke up a child’s birthday party.

Does this really surprise anyone anymore or am I just jaded?

It does surprise me, but I am not a US–American, so it might be that.

no, not that much of a surprise here either. there are some acceptable police departments and perfectly fine police officers, but in general, bullshit like this is the product of institutional problems that police departments like the chicago PD almost never actually address (even if courts or higher law tells them to do so) and it's distressingly common.

Hopefully I haven't overstepped my bounds by removing the tag. I think it's already pretty clear that these officers are doing a terrible job without using a slur.

Not at all. It was an overstep when it was added in the first place.

The submitter seems to be just trying to stir up controversy without meaningfully participating.

no, we generally do not. the thread on the christchurch shooter we had isn't even tagged with white supremacy currently because when the thread was started, it was a matter of contention (and nobody's gone back to add it again now that it's confirmed to be white supremacist terror), so i don't think it's really a stretch to say that it's not a good tag to add on something that is considerably less clear. (also, it just objectively doesn't work very well as a tag in the purpose it was intended here anyways since pig is a very generic word, but that's another thing)

A Chicago family is speaking out about having their home mistakenly besieged by the Chicago Police Department — during a birthday party for a 4-year-old boy.

In an interview with Chicago’s CBS 2, the birthday boy’s older sister, 7-year-old Samari Boswell, shared how officers pointed guns at those gathered, including children.
