Don't know much about the guy, but I know Ukraine is suffering – not at the least because of what my government's doing to it, its territory, and its people. If he can bring that beautiful country to peace and prosperity, I support his efforts.
My father's from Ukraine. So are both of his parents. If I met my paternal grandfather, I was too young to remember – but I remember spending some time with my grandmother. She lived near Donetsk, in a small town called Mospino. All I remember of it is that it's rural, very much a remnant of the Soviet past in terms of architecture and urban design, and it was sunny and warm when I was there. She made magnificent borsch, and she treated me with love. Spoke Russian with just enough of a sprinkle of Ukrainian to make you remember: "Oh yeah, she's from around here".
I bet the Russian state media are pissed, and are currently employing the same passive-aggressive snark they do to discredit everything else that makes sense.
Best wishes to Ukraine. Hope it prospers under Zelenskiy, and whomever comes after him.
