hey, y'all remember when hillary clinton called some donald trump supporters a basket full of deplorables and it was a whole ass ordeal because people acted like there was no way trump supporters as a collective could ever be projecting the racist sentiments that underpin many facets of american politics, and now a large number of those same people are toeing the line between just being regular old racists and basically being open white supremacists? pretty interesting how that works out, almost like clinton was on to something.

We may not be at 1942 yet, but we're certainly getting there :/

It’s clear he just wants to stick the accusation in people’s heads. He doesn’t give a shit what is true or not, he just wants to create a meme that can be used to mock her going forward. He doesn’t need to prove it, he just needs the phrase repeated often enough that it sticks. It’s classic middle school bully shit.

With this guy in office, you can never tell. My reading of that is that he either believes it himself or is absolutely fine with others seeing/hearing what he said and taking it as a confirmation that she was, indeed, married to her brother. I assume plenty of other people would read it the same way.

Well, who knows what Trump really believes. But I do know that I've already seen this popping up on Reddit, so his supporters are definitely willing to believe it regardless.

Yeah. I tend to flip-flop between thinking "Trump knows exactly what he's doing when he says things like this" (trying to rile up his supporters) and "he is just almost completely incoherent much of the time". Not totally sure which one is more terrifying.

that theory tends to greatly overascribe how technically competent donald is. i don't think he's really "distracting" from anything, because that would require him to know in advance how to react to certain situations and to effectively carry out those plans, both of which are... stretches, to say the least with him considering he can't even stay on a teleprompter and calls off attacks five minutes before they're supposed to happen. i tend to buy a lot more into the theory that he's just really reactionary and racist--particularly when he's watching/live blogging fox news--and that happens to coincide with media cycles that are unfavorable to him from time to time.
