As described in the text, social media companies would have to limit users to 30 minutes of use per day by default. Users would be allowed to choose their own time limits for daily and weekly use, but companies would have to reset that time limit to half an hour every single month, as well as providing "conspicuous pop-up" displays at least once every 30 minutes showing how much time you have spent using a service in the past day, across all devices.

This reminds me of how Nintendo games would interrupt your game in the 3DS, DS, and Wii era with notifications saying you should probably take a break from playing. I don't see this as a terrible way to change behavior as its a very salient antecedent to the desired outcome, however it might be so frustrating that after the first pop up, people will just extend the limit to the maximum allowable or opt out altogether.

But altogether, I can appreciate the goals of limiting social media consumption and the dialog taking place around its role in our society.

During this last round of elections we (missouri) voted Josh Hawley into Congress and for medical marijuana to be legalized. I am not a fan of Josh Hawley, but I am a fan of big doinks out in the amish, so I've been viewing it as a sort of trade off, right? One for the other.

As much as I love jazz cabbage, I'm beginning to think it wasn't a very fair trade.
