    what does it tell you about the state of this country that the media dropped this story after like a week and is only just now picking it up, even though it was an attempt to assassinate over a dozen major media heads and politicians/political donors?

      I honestly haven't been following details coming out of the case at all (because like you're saying, it's exhausting even trying to keep up with new events). But as it talks about in the article, the judge didn't believe the devices were actually intended to explode:

      The judge concluded that Sayoc, “though no firearms expert, was fully capable” of building a functioning bomb if he had wanted to do so. “He hated his victims,” the judge added, “but did not wish them dead, at least not by his own hand.”

      It looks like there was an FBI report that came out last month that concluded the bombs couldn't have possibly worked. So it's questionable whether it was actually an assassination attempt at all, or just an incompetent one.
