I actually witnessed the scare in Times Square. I was playing in a bar on 47th Street, right around the corner when it happened. Hundreds of people suddenly stampeded past the bar, running west on 47th (away from Times Square). We all froze in place for a few minutes and assumed the worst. One customer panicked because his wife and kids were out in the street, caught up in the stampede. Pretty scary for a few minutes.
It's definitely still newsworthy, as was the recent scare in NYC too, since they both speak to just how tense everyone in the US is right now regarding mass shootings, and so it probably shouldn't...

this is the second mass shooting scare in the past 24 or so hours. there was also one in times square earlier which looked like this.
