I worked for an Amazon warehouse in 2017. During the December holidays I was a shift assistant and man, it sucked. Even just working through Black Friday and Cyber Monday was rough. The volume was pretty crazy but we managed. But then during December the volume was insanely higher than it was during Thanksgiving, in part because our capacity increased and also some internal scheduling BS screwed us over. I worked in FLT? I think? But not as a pallet stacker and not in fullfilment. It seems that fullfillment, where your package gets picked and packaged, is the absolute most brutal. They play a lot of number games at amazon and try to figure out how much they can do with as few people as possible which fucking sucks. It seems that a lot of the amazon horror stories generally come from the fullfillment centers.

I know, Amazon bad, but my warehouse wasn't actually that bad. I picked routes for flex drivers and the fleet drivers/contractors amazon has. One of the shift managers liked to focus a lot on numbers but was still a relatively cool guy. There were a lot of really good people who I met who worked at amazon and even some of my managers and the like. The further you can get from the main pulse of it, the better it seems. No matter what, someone somewhere is going to be screwed over by capitalist holidays that promote over spending. And as someone who has been on the receiving end of having to both package and deliver them, I try my best to keep my online ordering to a minimum, particularly during the holiday season.

Please try not to order anything this holiday weekend. These folks are already being stressed enough.
