I feel like this is too soon, and not enough, and just makes the dems look petty. They absolutely should be exploring impeachment, just way more deeply. And they should treat the process with more gravity--as a dire, constitutional duty rather than a political exercise.

I am given to understand (via the Left, Right and Center podcast of last Friday), that there are a great many conservative professors, thinkers, and policy advocates who strongly support the impeachment investigation (and oppose Trump but are otherwise quite Republican), who could have been called to testify and weren't. That sure seems like a real missed opportunity.

I think the push for a quick investigation and process was to see if there was any movement within the Republicans in the senate.

With that not materializing, I think the Democrats want this whole process over and done with so it doesn't end up blowing up in their face in the election season more than it is already going to.

The Democrats are banking on the Senate not spending time on the process with all the potential "counter witnesses" to smear Biden and others.

It's my view that this whole impeachment process has been handled very poorly by the Democrats. This was a sure thing if done right (maybe not removal, but ensuring Trump couldn't possibly win reelection). This was also an incredible opportunity for a divided party to group closer together around a common cause. If anything it seems the opposite's been the case even from the talk about the issue this summer and onwards.
