It went down in an air space pervaded by different military factions amongst high tensions. Occam's Razor, lads. There's bad timing and then there's bad timing

No, they are merely reporting that some "experts" are suggesting that as a possibility. But the article overall seems to be just a bunch of different spokespeople, all with different vested interests and agendas, all making different claims and speculating without (as of yet) any actual evidence to support them. Some are suggesting it was shot down, some that it wasn't, and some are saying we should wait for actual evidence before saying one way or another... the latter of which seems to be the most prudent stance, IMO. And yet despite all the difference of opinion shown in the article, The Independent chose to craft their headline to focus only the former. I wonder why?

Since that point, they have amended the title: "Iran plane crash may have been ‘shootdown event’, aviation experts say"
Also to clarify: I'm not worried about accusations towards me at all, you and I are all good. I just wanted to clarify that the Independent came up with the fire and brimstone headline, not me.

While we're not going to know for quite a while, the plane abruptly caught fire and fell to the ground. I don't think it takes saudi investment for people to think it might be a missile attack.

Reread the entire article, then go back to the headline... do you honestly think the headline is appropriate given the rest of the article, which goes on to showcase just how varied the current opinions on the matter are, and how little evidence their currently is to support any definitive claims?
And when it comes to The Independent, it's not just the recent Saudi investment that concerns me. It's still majority owned by Alexander Lebedev, a former KGB+FSB spy and Russian Oligarch, and his son. At best they are purveyors of clickbait, and at worst...
It may very well turn out that the plane was shot down by the Iranians, or a bomb was set off inside it by them (or someone acting on their behalf)... but at this point speculation is incredible dangerous IMO, and intentionally misleading clickbait headlines even moreso... as perfectly exemplified by the fact @aphoenix said "most likely a shootdown event" even though the article doesn't actually say (or prove) that at all. This is precisely how misinformation spreads online!
edit: Apparently the headline originally read almost exactly as @aphoenix wrote it. So the Independent is clearly up to some editing shenanigans.

Fair enough. The fault clearly lies with the Independent, so sorry if I came across as accusatory towards you.

Worth noting that this has since been confirmed to have been a shootdown event (source).

Yes, I got "got" as well. I didn't see the unchanged headline. I do have issue with them saying it's "most likely a shootdown".
Please let this be due to bad weather... I don't want to think that it's some attempt to punish U.S. allies while trying to suck in Russian support.
