I hiked out to the Sólheimasandur crash in November of 2018. From the car park, it's about a 40 minute hike if you are really humping it, and it's completely exposed to the elements. Also, it's black sand almost to the horizon, so if you don't have the GPS coordinates to the plane and back to the car park, you could easily get lost. With how fast Iceland's weather changes, things could get dicey quickly.
