It's not that Trump didn't see this coming. He didn't want to see it coming. As that would mean making some hard choices.

Who saw this coming? Skybrian did (thanks again @skybrian for continually sounding the alarm on this.)

Who made the hard choices? Asian countries, bay area tech companies, the Federal Reserve (with their emergency rate cuts), US Sports organizations (with early closure of all sporting events).

Trump still has yet to make any hard choices. He is leaving everything to the governors, and has not fully shut down America, have the federal government coordinate supplies, or even encourage full and open communication

And now Trump is going after the WHO, to distract from his lack of leadership.

    I am beyond frustrated.

I definitely appreciate @skybrian for leading the charge here on Tildes, as well as all others who posted early coverage (and continual updates). The information here on Tildes helped me and my husband prepare early, as well as communicate in advance the seriousness of the situation to those we know.

Thanks! I feel like for a while, I was maybe a week or two ahead of the curve, compared to people around me, but that's no longer the case. And everything I share is an article written by someone else who was ahead of me.

But, nice to know that my news junkie habits did some good. Sometimes I wonder about that.

In my own life, with my relatives, I don't think it made all that much difference. We didn't act quickly, but perhaps we were less surprised and started considering changing plans a bit earlier, so it was less sudden and more what we expected.

I should've probably posted a bit more too in the early days. Both because it would be kind of interesting to compare my thoughts and predictions then to how things shook out and also to spread the word. I remember being among the people worried rather early over here, but I can't really say just how early. Early march, maybe late February.

What is even the point? He can say one thing, then when proven wrong, say he'd never ever said it and the public would believe him.

Well someone has to say it, even if only for the future.

I'm wondering: Can Trump be impeached because of this? (Not that Republicans will do it, but still)

In short, yes. The US Constitution isn't specific about what's impeachable. The House has the power to impeach and the Senate has the power to convict.

a memo on Jan. 29 urging Mr. Trump to impose the travel limits, arguing that failing to confront the outbreak aggressively could be catastrophic, leading to hundreds of thousands of deaths and trillions of dollars in economic losses.

The uninvited message could not have conflicted more with the president’s approach at the time of playing down the severity of the threat. And when aides raised it with Mr. Trump, he responded that he was unhappy that Mr. Navarro had put his warning in writing.
