    I wonder if the civilized West is committing an error on the same scale as letting Hitler walk free in 1930s when we just give these people wrist slaps. I don't see how it does anything except...

I don't see how it does anything except energize their supporters and themselves. They get to play the oppressed heroes with only minimal damage.

    Of course, fighting fire with fire intuitively seems like a bad strategy as well, but that's what it will lead to eventually if the spread cannot be contained.

      1.8% is relatively low... I have nothing to back this up, but if the same party ran in the UK they'd recieve a fair bit more than that.
