Do they announce it like this to scare people and try to keep them from going out and protesting?

So glad to hear the city has an ally in the mayor. It's appalling that these federal abductions are going on in Portland without a peep from the people supposedly in charge there. It does raise a concern though, since this means that Trump is deploying forces to cities without any coordination, taking the cities by surprise almost as much as the citizens being abducted. Which honestly makes it even more confusing why Portland isn't doing anything about it. They hear their citizens are being abducted by mystery federal agents and they just shrug their shoulders?

I'll admit I'm not super well versed on this, but from everything I've seen they've condemned it. Oregon's Governor, Senators,-and Portland's Mayor

Mm, good to see. What I've heard up til now was that their Mayor was being oddly silent about it, glad to be wrong here.

I don't know whether the mayor of Portland has spoken out against it, but the governor and both senators have decried it and already filed lawsuits. That not everyone just shrugging.
