It's sad to see a country slip like this. I know we have a few people on Tildes from Brazil; I hope that you'll be safe and be able to help stop this.

One should know that Bolsonaro is grossly incompetent even in gathering support from his own base. His attitudes and declarations are worrying, but he’s seen as a buffoon by many of his allies. So...

The key here is failing to gather support even from his radical sect.

That's understandable. I meant it as more of a general you, but I'm twice your age and feel the same way about being stuck. On a side note, it's kind of surreal talking to someone on the internet...

That's understandable. I meant it as more of a general you, but I'm twice your age and feel the same way about being stuck. On a side note, it's kind of surreal talking to someone on the internet who was born after I started using it. I remember sometime in 2005 watching a video on Google Video and thinking "huh, watching videos on the internet, what a concept."

I'm not gonna lie, I was actually thinking that, short of using electronic voting, Brazilian democracy was in a healthier state than US democracy before this. Anyway: This is mind-bending and...

Gugliano writes: “Bolsonaro wanted to send troops to the Supreme Court because the magistrates, in his opinion, were crossing the line in their decisions and storming his authority. In his mind, upon arriving at the STF, the military would remove the current eleven ministers. The substitutes, military or civilian, would then be appointed by him and remain in office “until that is in order”, in the words of the president. In the turmoil of the meeting, it was not clear how the troops would be deployed, nor whether, in Bolsonaro’s plans, the ministers dismissed from the STF would return to their positions when “that” was “in order”. At this point, he had also decided that he would not hand over his cell phone under any circumstances, even if he had to break a court order. “Only if I were a rat I would give my cell phone to him,” he said, making a comparison that he would use again, in public, during the day.”

I'm not gonna lie, I was actually thinking that, short of using electronic voting, Brazilian democracy was in a healthier state than US democracy before this.

    Anyway:

This is mind-bending and impeachment worthy. Thing is, we don't have midterms here (only municipal elections) and the center right's politicians do not seem to be super concerned about this. I wonder if their voters might be? Who even are their voters anyway?
