I love to hear stories of people fighting back - and succeeding - against bullies in life! Maybe I'm becoming more and more of a curmudgeon...but it feels like in the last decade or so of my life there seems to be more and more bullies (and types of people like bullies) ever more present in all areas of life. I know Darwin's theories firmly apply for life on our planet, and not just in the jungle but our everyday modern lives...but i guess with many aspects of life i thought we are beyond Darwin now...but maybe not. It just feels nowadays like the only way to get ahead in life but even to tread water, one has to be so vicious and ready to crush others...it is just so off-putting and disappointing. For all the modern, smart things that humans have thought up, for so many approaches that we have access to, we still are a culture of the "whoever can crush the little guy gets the best choice of life." I'm glad to see Lady Ninja at least got her victory over adversity, especially in protecting one of our vulnerable members of society. Kudos to Lady Ninja and all those who stand up to bullies!

There must be certain guarantees in place even to beat muggers up. If you have a social structure that makes you feel reasonably safe, fighting against an unarmed criminal do make some sense. In Brazil that’s a no-no: criminals may memorize your face and come after you with accomplices later.

Besides, even if you have Batman-like skills, you never know if the opponent is truly alone or what kind of weapon he is concealing.

So, even though this is uplifting news, what that lady did was incredibly irresponsible. The victim should had just given whatever he wanted. Her life is certainly more valuable.

So ninja grandma was defending a friend, who was not giving up the daughters location. “I didn’t expect that little lady would be that brave,” McCray said of her friend. “I said, ‘Could you be careful, he’s gonna kill us.’ She said, ‘Not tonight.'”

My family is from Colombia, so i'm very familiar with this, as it happens there too. But, it feels like we - collectively as humans around the world - should not have to live that way. If we all feel like we can not stand up for the weak or even ourselves, then the evil-doers have truly won...by brainwashing us to think that we have no option to stand up to them. Whether in the U.S. or Colombia or Brazil, i wish this kind of stuff didn't happen. Oh well.
