I've been letting things go pretty freely over the last couple of days, since it's been... kind of an unprecedented situation. I'll set up a daily thread starting tomorrow morning though, which can probably run through the last two weeks of Trump's presidency. I expect there'll be a lot of relatively minor things to post until then (and hopefully no more ones anywhere near as major).

      Any suggestions for the title/text?

Perhaps include a blurb to stick to news/facts/reporting, like the covid threads. This is the sort of thing that can spiral into rather... long winded political discussions that are notoriously hard to keep civil. I've certainly been indulging that urge today in spite of myself. :P

There are other things I should be doing, but I have a political hangover from this week. It's been rather hard to concentrate.

I bring to the table "Oh Jesus Christ, what did he do this time!?" Daily Thread. But I guess Transition of Power Daily Thread works just as well, if as not as clear as the other one.

Minor, but I think adding in "2021 transition" or "46th transition" of power would also be a good addition to make it clear that this is the transition from Trump to Biden specifically.

        Uhhhhh,

"Daily thread for the last two weeks of Trump's presidency" doesn't sound too bad.

Something more bland like "US politics daily thread - January X" might be better though.

Honestly, I have no idea 🤷‍♂️

There's a lot of misinformation on how the 25th works. What the 25th Amendment lays out is that if a majority of the cabinet and the vice president agrees, they can say that the President is unfit for service and submit a document to Congress, and then the VP becomes President.

However, the President, if he's able to, can then submit his own petition saying that they're not unfit for service to Congress. Then Congress must reconvene in 48 hours and if a SUPERMAJORITY in BOTH CHAMBERS vote for the Vice President, the VP continues being President. This is actually harder than impeachment + conviction, and since we know the House is full of loons it's not going to happen.

Now, that doesn't mean it's not an option - If Trump goes haywire and tries to form to actively form a militia tomorrow, for instance, the 25th is the quickest way to immediately deprive him of political power, but it's not a useful solution while he's still docile.
