Like last year, hotter-than-normal ocean surface temperatures are contributing to a surfeit of storms.

The story includes an amazing photo from September 10 which shows a belt of eight cyclically organized storms near the equator, including an even larger "supertyphoon" with 200+ kph winds about to pass through the Asian Pacific.

Fellow Tilders, have you been in the vicinity of a hurricane, typhoon, or other tropical weather effect? How long did it take to recover, and do you feel your community/government is well-prepared for the same or worse storms?
