That was way more interesting that I had anticipated. I was surprised (or I guess not really, if I had to be honest) that the US is going against the decline.
But the main means of suicide in America is guns. They account for half of suicides, and suicides account for more firearms deaths than homicides do.

This along with the section that talks about the correlation to drinking cultures got me pretty upset because drinking and gun culture are not very likely to change in this country for a very long time. I support neither prohibition nor heavy gun control, and what we need is education in both of these areas. It's ridiculous the toxic culture we've created around alcohol in the US. People turn 21 and have no idea how to behave themselves and it's showing.
On the other side, I do not outright support "gun culture", but I do think there is something to be said for allowing citizens the right to bear arms. However, in combination that with the mental illness and drug/alcohol abuse in this country, not everyone should be given the privileged to own a firearm. Anyone who says otherwise is insane or not thinking about the issue outside of their own bubble.
I'm rambling a bit, but my point is that culture in the US right now is aiding the suicide trends we are seeing. I really hope we can reverse some of it, but these are things that are ingrained in US culture.

I heard recently from Jonathan Haidt that girls suicide is up about 70%
