MDMA for PTSD, ketamine for depression, LSD for alcoholics - hallucinogens and analogues have been used in conjunction with therapy for well over 50 years. Shitty drug laws more concerned with controlling the population than anything else lead to scheduling status in many countries where legitimate substances were banned from any use, including research.

Schedule I status (in the US) should not even exist. The highest scheduling should be schedule II, which allows for the use of the substance in research and in medicine. We can never predict when or how a particular chemical will be useful and a complete ban from medicine and research does nothing but hinder progress.
