A good friend of mine was one of the last biospherians. He has many stories about the place, which fit in with the general tone of what's written here. Also, while he is generally the kind of person who rarely has a bad word to say about anyone, he has a number of choice words about Steve Bannon.

Biosphere 2 was a really interesting idea, and looking back it seems obvious it was destined to fail from the start - but then hindsight always is 20/20. Things were learned and some actual science did come out of it.

If this were reddit I think I would be demanding an /r/IAmA from your friend. ;) It would be fascinating to be able to ask questions to someone who actually partook in Biosphere 2, especially...

Do they happen to have a blog or anything where I could read their account?

Unfortunately he's not all that internet inclined, being the kind of dude who's much happier sitting in a forest or a garden than at a computer. I can barely get him to answer an email, let alone write a blog or do an AMA! He's one of those people who has a million amazing stories about "that one time in the Mexican rainforest" or "when I was crewing a research ship off Chile" or "as the sun came up I saw the polar bear coming towards the tent" but you never get the impression he's showing off about it, it's just his life is full of amazing things.

Genuinely one of the most interesting and more importantly, one of the nicest, people I know.

Dang, that sucks (for me), especially since now I really want to hear some of his other stories too! :P It sounds like he leads a pretty interesting life.
