The YouTube channel Today I Found Out published a video about this reactor yesterday. It adds some details as to why it happened at that time and not sooner, when the proportion of U-235 was higher.

Interesting place for abiogenesis, and not one we typically put on the list when puzzling it out.

Do you think a natural nuclear reactor may have played a role in creating life on Earth?

I've no idea, but a nuclear tidal pool would be a good source of radiation, change, and complex chemistry. When I see people talking about conditions for abiogenesis, I have never seen them talk about proximity to natural nuclear reactions and given the regulations around nuclear I'd bet nobody has studied this option in-depth.
