AlphaFold DB provides open access to protein structure predictions for the human proteome and twenty other key organisms to accelerate scientific research

Personally, the generosity of Google/DeepMind here comes as a shock. I really can't emphasize just how revolutionary this is. Without hyperbole, this is completely upending life science research.

At the same time it's putting an entire subfield of researchers out of business, more or less. Basically making classic PhD's, and even entire labs, on protein structure determination nearly obsolete. In a good way though, because now we can skip the tedious work and go straight into the interesting questions about protein function.
