America First is another common one. I think it was less acceptable to say America wasn't great before that and so it was more "keep America Great" (no Chinese or Irish need apply, and we don't even count anyone browner than that. )

This is romanticized to the extreme. Dumb "thought virus" slogans have existed for most of recorded history. In fact it was the standard for a long time because most people couldn't read.
