Every day I wonder what will get him first - his age and unhealthy life style, or an angry mob. I'm not even joking here. His actions are really making it a ratrace between the two.

Maybe. He's still trying to think of ways to get another term, or just suspend elections. All that is fraught with legality problems, but he's shown laws are optional for him and the administration.

Or so I say, but I suppose it's good for anyone who has any stocks in fossil fuel giants. Well, as far as this can be 'good' for any human being when climate change is getting worse and worse. And being rich does not isolate you from physical reality.

I realize it's an off the cuff bit of your comment, but I think being rich does 100% isolate you from physical reality. As the livable area of the earth collapses and things get worse and worse, the ultra rich are not going to be the ones who have problems, and it's because of their money. It's that fact that is one of the central driving factors of this catastrophe.

Nah, it's a reasonable response - I personally disagree that it separates you from physical reality. In the end, if climate change gets so bad that the biodiversity collapses(that would be really extreme from my understanding, but not impossible), or hurricanes get far worse, then that alone can end you. And if social inequality during times of hardship get that bad, you risk social upheaval a lot.

That said, it can separate you mentally and think you're invincible for such reaction. French revolution comes to mind(but of course, that had many causes).

Those are good points so I'll amend my initial claim to "being rich does 92% isolate you from physical reality". I don't think the earth will ever fully collapse and be unsustainable to human life...

I don't think the earth will ever fully collapse and be unsustainable to human life and my understanding is that most scientists don't think that either, but that it may cause the death of very many people, and I think that disproportionately the ultra rich will survive where people without money will not.

That said, I think I'm nitpicking because my coffee hasn't activated the "be a chill human" part of my brain yet this morning.

When I look at the African states bordering the south of Sahara, you can argue the process is kinda starting already though it's turning into a nasty cocktail of climate change, French neo-colonialism falling apart, Russian interference, auxiliary gold mining, drone warfare... just to name a few things.

Of course there's also... nah, let's not go it further with depressing shit when you're still getting your first does of caffeine.

I will make another coffee and drop this richest 10% responsible for 2/3 of global warming which isn't a rebuttal of anything, but just another depressing factoid.
