I know people on Tildes don't care too much about sports, but this is legitimately hilarious. Edit: added some funny quotes. For example:...

Bronny should have to play in a little vehicle shaped like Lebrons head like Bowser Jr.

Let Bronny have the first jersey number with .5 in it.

According to Multiple reports, Lebron James has been sleeping with his newest teammates mother.

I don't follow the NBA at all, but I was hoping someone else would draft him just to see if he'd follow through on his threat to go play in Australia.

In defense of Lebron, I think a lot of people read that as him muscling his son to the Lakers, when really it was like “don’t draft my son to try and recruit me”. Still, I wish someone had pulled the trigger and we could’ve seen Lebron try hunting his son on defense. That’d be way more entertaining than them playing garbage time together.

It's basically like a rider but instead of m&M's and champagne in a dressing room it's drafting the star's son..

the amount of nepotism is insane. If he really is good enough to be in the NBA that's something else, his dad must've trained and shit with him. why name your kid brony though?

I don't really see the nepotism in this particular case as that big of an issue, because in professional sports it seems like nepotism is the norm. I'd say that the broader picture of rampant nepotism in professional sports is an issue, but I wouldn't take a stand on this one particular incident. Like the ball boys and the sweat moppers etc. I think are all related to or know someone in the NBA, you can't even get the most basic jobs without knowing someone. It's similar in the other team staff too, probably gets worse as you move up the staffing tree. If you go to other sports like the NFL, it's similar from the low jobs up to the coaching trees and so on.

Nepotism exists in all walks of life and basically the best way to get into anything you want is to have a soft-nepotism connection (for instance, I'm in a career that I'm not qualified for because a friend stuck their neck out for me).

Bronny is 100% not qualified to play basketball at any level, he's trash. This is not me attacking his character, I'm sure he must be a nice young man. But he's not a basketball player.

So first off to preface: I don't like Bronny, this draft pick made me a little irritated, and it's pretty clear nepotism that got him picked.

That being said, it's also good to keep in mind that it was the #55 pick, and the players in the past 10 years of drafts that went at number 55 include: Semaj Christon, Cady Lalanne, Marcus Paige, Nigel Williams-Goss, Arnoldas Kulboka, Jay Scrubb, Kyle Guy.

I'd be hard pressed to know any of them, most of them flamed out of the NBA very quickly, a few of them probably never even saw meaningful playing time in the NBA. The #55 pick of the NBA draft is mostly GM's playing slots hoping to get someone who can actually play basketball. Very few #55 picks are even qualified to play basketball in the NBA.

The issue is that it's oddly specific, which grounds it. Take this example "That's like the biggest building on earth" vs "Of the class of skyscrapers, this is the largest building in the world"....

The issue is that it's oddly specific, which grounds it. Take this example

              vs

"Of the class of skyscrapers, this is the largest building in the world".

The former is clearly just exaggeration, the latter is a seemingly a statement of fact. "Cannot play basketball at any level" falls into the latter. Moreover, I think it also vastly overstates how bad Bronny James is.

He'd be fine in G League. He was serviceable in college. "Cannot play basketball at any level" is like what you'd call your 5'5 coworker who can't run for more than 5 minutes.

"Any level" = not being fit on literally the highest level of basketball in the world seems a stretch, even as exaggeration.

For someone to fit "any level of basketball" as a phrase of exaggeration I'd say they'd at least have to be below a starter on a mid-tier college team.

Fair enough. I wish the young man well, it's going to be hard playing in his dad's massive shadow. I hope his heart is healthy, too. That was a scary moment.
