NICO HULKENBERG PODIUM
THIS IS NOT A DRILL
I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL
THE CURSE IS BROKEN
I can't believe it actually happened. What was the stat? 239 starts or something without a single podium? Good for him, much deserved!
Wikipedia showed 238, with 241
startsentries, before someone edited it just now.Edit: Also, 585 points without a podium, holding the record by a wide margin. Second place is Pierluigi Martini, with 188.
Wooo! NICO!!! I hope Audi keep him around for next season. 19th to 3rd and kept a 7-time world champion behind him for several laps.
Actually shed a tear. So happy for my boy Nico.
Apologies for the lateness of getting this posted. Stayed up late celebrating
Treason DayUS Independence Day. Sorta half-slept/half-watched Quali. So ended up having to rewatch at least the end of the session. That was an exciting Q3! Once again, Max somehow manages to wring P1 out of that car. At one point during his final hot lap, he had two-tenths on Oscar, but ended a tenth faster than him. Which is still pretty impressive. Maybe I'm misremembering, but seems like when the weather is cooler, the RBs do much better, relative to themselves.
Which means tomorrow should be an interesting race, since there's an ~80% chance of rain, which naturally brings cooler temps. Though obviously wet racing throws all that out the window. Provided they actually get to race... 😐
EDIT: Might've misread the weather report. This is why I'm not a meteorologist!
EDIT2: Apparently I did read it right? Idk. This is what lack of sleep does to a MFer...
Oh man is there a projection of serious rain?
I've had a relaxed few days and watched the build up sessions a bit (FP2, pre-quali) in a way that I haven't in a looong time. Enjoyable to see the hullabaloo around the circus.
Max being max. Lando and HAM both left plenty out there.
Hearing talk of a double DSQ for Ferrari with how low they're running. LEC looked like he was having an engine blowout, how hard his rear was dragging.
video of the rain! --- F3 was cut short due to the rain. It's absolutely pouring. I'll be surprised if we get F2 and I'll be even more surprised if F1 starts on time.
I wish they'd halve the benefit of DRS so it wasn't for passing, but merely enough to catch up.
I agree with the Piastri call, but its just unfortunate timing. I'm glad they didn't swap, too. That wouldn't be fair to Lando.
GOOOOO HULK! That really tops off a great weekend.
How'd you do on your weekly predictions?
well, I did tie for first with three others with five points. Not great, but I'll take it
Hulk is so consistent with starting at the back and making his way to the midfield... or at least it seems that way. I need to run some stats on it. I couldn't be happier for our dude.
Well that was great way to end the first half of the season! The rain definitely made it beyond chaotic, but at least we saw Hulk finally get a podium! Also, congrats to Norris for winning his home race! I think it's always fun for the driver and the homecrowd when that happens. Maybe one day we'll see an American win at home again; last one was Mario Andretti in 1982.
Anyway, I don't know if this is technically the summer break or not, as August, between Hungary and the Netherlands is 4 weeks. This break that we're at is "only" 3 weeks.
Here's where we're at after 12 rounds:
2025 World Drivers Championship - After 12 rounds
2025 World Constructors Championship - After 12 rounds
Enjoy your weekends, enjoy sleeping in and/or going to bed at a normal time, and see you all for Spa!
I am cautiously optimistic that Crawford may make it to F1 and do well. He had a great feature race this week and has shown sparks of brilliance throughout the season.
Excited for Hulk, but what a disappointment as a Max fan. Piastri got his penalty, sure, but Max got utterly fucked over.
I was so annoyed with the F1 announcers saying the penalty wasn't warranted when it definitely was.
Max was going to have a hard race, no matter what, if it rained. They set the car up for a cool, dry race with the small wing.
Same. I walked away during the SC around Lap 20, then came back around Lap 26 and was like "Tf happened??" I saw the replay of Oscar braking behind the SC, but I didn't see how Max ended up like 10 down the field. Need to rewatch that part.
