Absolute dominance from Fiji in the HK 7s again if anyone wants to see peak human physical conditioning then watch some highlights of the Fiji 7s team. Anyone else on ~sports follow rugby?

I don't really follow it (or even know much about it, in truth), but I did go to a rugby game in the UK when I lived there. I can't remember which teams were playing (or even if it was league or union?) since it was so long ago, but one team did do a Hakka-like performance at the beginning, which was pretty cool to see/hear live.

And the thing that absolutely blew me away with the game was just how into it the crowd was... the chants were great (and hilarious) and the volume of the roars on every successful try (that's the term, right?) was crazy.

Another thing that really surprised me about it was, even though we were in the nosebleed section, we could still distinctly hear the loud thwacks whenever two players smashed into each other at full clip. Rugby players are nuts! :P

It was a great experience, and so I can totally understand the appeal of following the sport, especially after seeing it live.

Rugby live is definitely a sight to behold the atmosphere can get absolutely insane I would say even more so in 7s than in 15s I think rugby culture in general also permits it to be enjoyed much more when you're in a group or at the stadium. You should definitely look into playing if you enjoyed watching so much, it's even better ;). On a little tangent; based on your word choice I'm going to assume you're American so if you don't mind me asking, what would you say the main differences between watching rugby and American football are? I've always wondered how they'd compare and I've never gotten the chance to watch NFL live or even go to the US. Final little tangent, you gave me my invite code to tildes so thank you very much <3.

Hah... I am far too old and my knees way too fucked up for that. I can't even ski or snowboard anymore due to a torn LCL and various other knee issues, despite doing that regularly for most of my life since early childhood, so I think rugby is definitely off the cards for me at this point. :P

Canadian, actually. And given how little American/Canadian pigskin football I watch, I probably am just about the worst person you could ask that to. But from my complete layman perspective, having been to only a half-dozen CFL games (Toronto Argonauts mostly) and the one rugby game... rugby is way more exciting and fast paced. The crowds are way, way, way more organized and "into it" than pigskin football crowds too. You will get the occasional "wave", cheers and funny shit-talk from the stands, but nothing remotely on the same scale or intensity as futbol or rugby crowds.

Honestly, if I had stayed living in the UK, I might have eventually become an actual fan of both those sports because of the awesome crowds there... but in Canada at least, Basketball, Football, and especially Baseball are just way too slow and sedate for my taste. Hockey is a bit better, but still kinda boring unless it's a really good game. It's why the only sport I really follow religiously is MMA, since that's about as exciting as it gets here, IMO.

NP, glad to see you using it. :)
