Honestly the most surprising part of this news to me is how long it took for the first star player to come out and say they aren't playing anymore. I fully support Rask. Even if his decision was just he didn't want to play I would support him, however some news sources I'm reading are saying his wife is having a difficult pregnancy and/or just gave birth? In which case even more so yes Rask I support you going home to be with your family.

It really does suck seeing how people are reacting to this. I can understand being sad for your team's chances to win the cup. If a major CBJ player came out and said they weren't playing the rest of playoffs I'd be bummed to. BUT! IMPORTANTLY! I'd be bummed and still be understanding and support the player. It really sucks to see how poorly hockey twitter (I guess specifically Bruins twitter) is reacting to this. Its very weird being a not-Boston sports fan who lives in Boston and seeing how people react to their team's news. I am friends with some season-ticket holders and bruin's stans (they write NHL player fanfics, know every detail of every player's lives, follow players families and pets on social media) and they're all SO supportive of Rask's decision I thought maybe I was wrong and would be surprised at how positively people reacted to this news, but NOPE.

Its also unfortunate for the team that wins the cup this year because their win is going to be seen as illegitimate. I think this cup holds the same weight as any other year but I know this year is going to have an asterisk on it for many and that's just going to suck for any team that wins either their first cup or is breaking a drought. Mostly I feel bad for CBJ and Philly. CBJ for the bias, and Philly because they truly did put on a clinic this whole season and played incredibly hockey all year and looked to finally be ready to bring some spice back to the PA rivalry and then in the final stretch its going to be in a postseason that everyone writes off. Just really sucks for those players.
