Weird decision. It seems like some of the consensus is that this is being done because Göteborg FC are a solely women's club, while most of the other teams in the league have both a men's and women's teams, which means they have more financial backing.
Additionally, there are now 3 women's teams in their city.
I was talking with a buddy who lives in the area though and he was a bit confused by the decision to do so now. All the other teams are several divisions below for now, so it really wouldn't impact the team for a few years and they could have easily announced they were going to be dissolving in X years.
Judging by the tone of the recent coverage, it looks like the initial shock is turning to anger. Could end up being some blowback on Kopparberg even...
