An Oykata is a sumo elder that runs a sumo stable. Elders are former wrestlers that reached a high enough rank and retired which allows them to train other wrestlers. Think of a stable as a group of sumo wrestlers that train together even though it is up to the individual to compete for themselves, much like an olympic team that trains together for individual event medals.
