They're not shorts shorts, they're just spandex shorts. You see the same thing in Track and Field where there are some runners who will wear the bottoms that are closer to the bikini cut, and others will wear the spandex shorts.

There's really 0 difference and it's all about what people are most comfortable with. Seems like a stupid law, glad the Norway Federation is standing with their players and covering the fine.

A few days ago my wife brought this up when the news broke that the team was thinking about wearing shorts. I don't follow any beach sport, but my first response was something along the lines of "Wait, they make them wear bikinis?" having fully expected it to be a choice and most going for the (no other word for it) skimpy bottoms out of some personal decision, but no, it's the rules...

And get this, the men's uniform permits long shorts with the rule being they have to be no longer than 10cm from the kneecap and can be "baggy", shirts are to be sleeveless and close fitting (this doesn't seem to be enforced as I go looking at men's beach handball championship games). The women however, must wear a top that is "a midriff design, close fitting, with deep cutaway armholes on the back" and "bikini bottoms with a close fit and cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg. The side width must be of a maximum of 10 centimeters."

I get the needs for a uniform standard, it could "cheapen the sport" if say one team is in what's expected and the other is in say a Juggalo t-shirt with the arms cutoff and Jnco jeans, but the requirement for the teams to wear what amounts to beach lingerie is indefensible. If you go searching for the official broadcasts of professional games there sure seems to be a lot of shots that are unnecessarily low, or start close up on the players torsos and pan out until their ass is in the frame. These shots seem to be oddly missing from the men's broadcasts. I can't imagine why that might be...
