So was anyone else eager to join Tildes if only to pick a unique name?
Honestly, every other site I join has been after a few years of being popular, so naturally, all the unique and cool names were taken. Fortunately when I got my invite code, I got my first choice: "Chill." Anyone else?
As a matter of principle I try not to reuse names across sites, especially with public discussions. I guess it was nice benefit to be able to pick something short and provocative for a change.
Welcome, ya cunt!
Same here. And also delete my account and start over somewhat frequently too. (see here for some fun stats that can be gathered about you just because you're on, say, Reddit: https://www.snoopsnoo.com/ )
Interesting choice of username for someone who had pretty much all of them available lol
Username relevant.
How do we know you aren't short and provocative in real life?
What does your name mean, anyways? Is it like a family name or...? It's so unique and exotic to me, just never really heard it prior to today is all.
Aren't all usernames unique by definition? You can't have non-unique usernames in the same system. If two people could create the same username, that would lead to all sorts of problems. You can't have two users "aaa", so user "aaa" is unique by definition.
Maybe you mean a cool or special username?
In that case, I was definitely happy to be able to claim this username because it's meaningful for me.
Hey, I've definitely seen you around, partly due to your name. It's cool that you've put a lot of thought into yours, it's like a whole other first name for you!
Also, get out of here with your logic!
Probably also because I spend way too much time on the internet, so I'm a bit too prolific on Reddit and now here. :/
It almost is. It has become a whole alternate identity for me. In a way, I am Algernon. He's certainly a big part of me. I actually think that if someone called out "Algernon!" in real life, I might answer. (And then people would look at me funny.)
:P
Do you watch Archer? Cuz your name kind of reminds me of a certain character named Algernop Krieger, and that dude is totally weird lol.
Nope. I caught half an episode while a former housemate was watching it, and it's really not my type of show at all.
So, you know why I chose my username. Following on from that other thread I linked to... "Why did you choose this username for your Tildes account?" Why "Chill"? Why was that your first choice?
Simply put, I like it. The word chill just reminds me of relaxation, and it gives me some "vibes." This is going to sound kind of odd and xD randumb, but I like to think of words in colors. When I think chill, I think of this really awesome mix of light blue and purple, and it just feels right. Plus its short, sweet and rolls off the tongue.
Still, I haven't been inspired by an author so my name kind of loses in the old intelligence department.
It was about 1/3 of the reason. The other 2/3s was the echo chamber-like discussions on reddit.
your name is really cool imo, much more trolly though lmao.
What bothered me most was, someone would comment and they were clearly being condescending. Or there would be comments where people were intentionally trying to be crumby toward someone. But they were both done in a way they can spin it later. And it is completey obvious that is what they are doing.
Then whenever the person they responded to says, you were clearly trying to be condescending or insulting for x, y, or z reasons. Then other people chime in and just dump all over the person standing up for him or her self.
Just a lot of superiority complex type stuff. It's obvious someone just wants to stir the pot or talk down to someone and pointing that out is a death sentence.
Is your name jade?
If you don't mind me asking, what is the extra letter you added? Oddly enough, I can't really see a name in there lol.
Hey I've seen you everywhere!
Yeah, it must be cool to have your name as your account name. I like it!
Same here lol
My username has nothing to do with the legislative body and everything to do with George Clinton.
I wants to get funked up!
If you want to follow my novelty twitter account... I just tweeted a new one for ya.
I love it! I think I'm going to make a new account and try for the fourth time to actually use Twitter.
All hail the Hypnotoad
I don't think my username is particularly unique, but it's almost always available. If I go to register on a site and 'Rawnkin' is taken, I assume that I have already registered there and just forgotten.
It was a bit of the reasoning, yeah.
That wasn't the main reason I was eager to join but I was definitely very happy to get asdf for once.
I didn't actually realize that's what I was so excited about -- I finally got to get the username I've wanted for other sites! Basically just my name backwards :P
That didn't even occur to me until this thread, and by then I had already re-used my reddit username anyway. I really don't care about usernames either way, I'm much more interested in content whoever it is that publishes it.
I used the same name I use in other places. Lmao I messed up.
IIRC you can message Deismos and ask to change your name.
Hey, that's Chill. We'll have to see how I feel about my name I guess.
Well I do like the name imo
Thanks! I like yours too.
I definitely wanted to accelerate the process of registering my name once I got my invite code, but I am here more for the pure discussion and the amazing development of this platform.
I just hope that people use invite codes wisely.
Do not inflate the user base by creating alts with funny names that might be used one day. We need more people to join, not two instances of the same person.
If you picked a clever name, good. If you haven't, please don't use invite codes to seize the opportunity.
I liked the opportunity to choose a username where I am pretty much guaranteed to not be the first few pages of a google search. But not the primary reason I joined.
We said never in the house
Shit, I want to name change now...
I can't deny joining here because I could get this choice user name.
But also, I joined Tildes because I don't like the directions that Reddit is going in. Not only with the redesign, but also, the tolerance of hateful subreddits, the constant focus on ads/gold/profitability, the corporate structure, and other smaller things.
If, by my presence and contributions here, I can send the world a message that Reddit's ways are not my ways, then I'll be here.
Maybe....
Apparently not.
