The amount of neighborhood fireworks this year in Las Vegas is much less than in years past

Used to sound like a war zone from the end of June on. Now almost nothing until the the 4th, and even then nothing like in the past years. Rents have been slowly climbing, maybe that has pushed out the young and reckless. Maybe it is facebook. How about your neck of the woods?

Now I live in Seattle and it's pretty war zone like here. My dogs and cats are not pleased. Nor am I really. I really liked those fireworks when I was 13 but now not so much, I just find them annoying and disrespectful.

Denver here, it's been non-stop since about 7PM. Pretty sad considering how dry we are right now and how many fires are going on in the state already.

NE OK here. This year they have been making a bigger deal about it than ever. People like to pretend like the current state of things is how things have always been. I have lived here 6 years and they have never made a big deal about fireworks until this year. Yes, it has been illegal to shoot them in city limits, but there is not been a year where they made as big a deal out of the whole thing as this year. But if you point that out they will say, nu-uh it has always been like this.

I don't mind the fireworks. I don't have any pets I don't have anything going on that would bother me about it. I was even out in the yard watching them earlier.

The issue I have is, they say that you have to have a permit here and only "professionals" can get a permit. Which is silly because it makes people think that knowing the right person isn't all you need to get a permit. They really think that everyone with a permit as some pyrotechnic professional.

And you have all of these people literally urging people to go out of the city limits and onto privately owned land to shoot fireworks. Which is extremely stupid. Then you have the other people suggesting that you drive out of City Limits and just shoot them off the narrow country roads the don't have street lights, and no one stops at the stop signs because there's so little traffic ordinarily.

And the coup de gras is that my neighborhood is making this huge deal about fireworks, but no one ever says anything about the issue of people driving 60 to 65 miles an hour through our residential area that happens every single day.

It's like people forget that kids live in his neighborhood. You hear them outside playing. Why ruin this holiday for them. This year it seems like every single person wants to shut down fireworks completely. I have never seen it this bad. Everyone and their mother is wanting to shut down the 4th of July and I don't know what changed between last year and this year.

As SuperHans has mentioned, we have the Moapa reservation here in Vegas. The Moapas got the short end of the stick (again), by being located 15 miles from the strip. So it is not like the Indian Casino biz is thriving for them. However, they are the only one allowed to sell the 'good' fireworks. People can bring their own fireworks there to set off on the giant circle-o-dirt. Maybe something like that would be good compromise.

Three different people were setting them off around my house. I couldn't see who it was through the trees but I'm glad they were doing it. Was nice to watch.

It was really quiet in the last week or two, then a little below normal tonight. The folks on my block who do fireworks seem to have bought less, and less aerial stuff. A lot more fountains, roman candles, that kind of thing than in years past, which have always been heavy on the rockets and mortars.

I think part of it is people hurting from the economy, and part of it is the firework dealers all super coincidentally simultaneously trying a new pricing model this year. Acccording to some of my coworkers, rather than have everything at regular price (or a "discounted" price) all the dealers around here did some sort of buy-one-get-one "sale", at elevated prices. So like what used to be $3 items, or 4/$10, are now $7, either buy one get one free, or buy one get a second for $1, depending on the outlet.
