What are you doing this week?

This is a place for ongoing discussion about the things you plan to do or have accomplished recently, even if that's nothing at all.

Or, if you want to just talk about how you're feeling, this is a good place to do that too.

You can find last week's topic here.

Congrats! I felt like the fish at the end of Finding Nemo, having finally escaped from the fish tank but still trapped in plastic bags, "...now what?"

Got an exam to sit this week which I've hardly revised for. I don't particularly want to do it because I've had little motivation to study. Heck, I've hardly played video games lately and that used to be one of my biggest vices.

I'm stuck in a rut which I attribute to relationship problems. In short, women have historically strung me along all the damn time and it's been a common theme throughout my adolescence and early adulthood. They pretend to be interested in me then either flake out or throw it back in my face. to illustrate my point

    • A girl I used to work with was flirting with me pretty hard. She eventually flaked on me when I tried to set up a date. A few more weeks later, she comes back crying to me because her boyfriend (who I had no knowledge of) dumped her. It turns out her parents freaked out when they found out that she had premarital sex with him. This pissed me off because in all the time she had been stringing me along and trying to inflate her ego, she was getting boned by another guy when I always saw her as the good religious girl who would wait until she is married. I never actually confronted her about it because I knew it would destroy our friendship but I wish I had. We barely talk now.

    • My long distance ex. We were at one point really close and things between us turned about as sexual as a LDR would allow. Then we finally met in person and had a second date that didn't go so well. Something about me turned her off, and I'm sure it was probably my fear of heights. We tried to remain friends but she ghosted me all the time, and eventually when I did confront her about the breakup I got a reply back so scathing that it made me think she never cared in the first place.

    • A girl I met a few months after my breakup. She lived in another city, was totally my type, had a similar interest in video games, was one of the few people that liked my crappy dad jokes, and we clicked really well. So well in fact that by the end of our first (and sadly only) date we spent almost a solid hour making out. We didn't sleep together that night because she was staying with her sister, but she invited me back to her place at a later date. Then less than a week later she drops the whole "this isn't gonna work between us, I'm sorry, I didn't want to lead you on" line. I wanted to tell her to go fuck herself for hurting my feelings like this but I'm far too nice for that.

I tried to do many things to escape this rut. I tried to get into the law of attraction and eventually Neville Goddard's teachings, because something at one point convinced me that my thoughts and emotions were manifesting events in the world around me. But soon I grew more skeptical when trying to be happier had no effect, and when I saw a load of profit-hungry LoA coaches on Reddit peddling these teachings like it was their own snake water. My recent efforts to go to the gym and get jacked were also born out of a feeling of inferiority and unhappiness with my own physique.

You can tell me to fuck off if you aren't looking for any advice or anything of the sort.

Focus on you. Work on bettering yourself physically and mentally. Strike up chats with random people while you're waiting in line, or chat with the person who's serving you, while they're serving you. The confidence you want is just being happy and being who you are. Find a look that works for you, that makes you comfortable, same with hairstyle and facial hair.

Figure out where/how you're comfortable meeting girls, and communicate. It's true, some girls will string you along like the first girl seemed to do. The second girl, your ex, may have been expecting something else, but I cannot say for sure. The third girl, I don't think she strung you along. You only went on a single date and made out. At the time she was interested but lost interest. She ended things nicely rather than stringing you along or ghosting you (both of which have happened to me).

From personal experience with trying to attract ladies: you'll lose more often than you win, and that's something you want. You don't want every girl to want you. You want the right girl to want you. And that always changes too. People change, they lose interest. It happens, and it hurts. Take it and learn from it, if you can. It may be your fault, it may be hers, it may not be anyone's.

Again, tell me to fuck off if you don't want to hear this and I can delete this post.

I want to do some kind of visual art, but the only thing I really have the skills to put together right now is video game shit. I hate the feeling of having something I want to express but no way to do it. Hopefully this will give me a new path.

I know how that is. 3DCG has a weird learning curve, but a very high ceiling. If you stick with it, and it sticks with you, you'll be capable of more than you thought possible.

I wanna write a proper analysis or review of the last book I read, The Door Into Summer, by Robert A. Heinlein. It would be the second article on my website, that I created more than 6 months with the promise of weekly posts. I also wanna write at least the first act of a science fiction short story, probably involving artificial intelligence, but I'm having trouble starting it.

This past weekend was a relative success. I finished a few tasks and cleaned up about one hundred of the many, many bookmarks I've lazily accumulated over the past month, while I was taking classes. Normally, I keep my bookmarks nicely organized with folders and tags, but that system sort of broke down.

I also managed to do some code fiddling and KDE configuring and will try to get the last of my shit ported over to Linux from Windows today. I've got a bunch of "Linux ISO" torrents that I need to migrate and it's just going to be a huge pain.

I'll also be doing some mapping on OpenStreetMap today, working on areas around the lake I fished at some time ago as well as the little town I visited for a family reunion this past weekend.

As for the rest of this week, I'll be pretty busy. My grandmother has an Acer C710 Chromebook that no longer receives updates and her ten year old, Windows Vista running desktop recently bit the dust. Wednesday, I'll be hanging out with her trying out different Linux setups on her laptop and figuring out what she likes most. We'll try a couple different desktop environments and probably stick to Ubuntu/Mint/Debian, but we might make a foray into Fedora or OpenSUSE territory. All she really needs is an office program, Chromium, her printer set up, and she'll have all her missing functionality back, but we're going to have some fun. On top of that, we'll be rearranging her desk and setting up her monitor from her desktop to work with her laptop. I'm pretty sure I blew her mind when I told her she can have a dual screen setup.

Other than that, I'm going to be doing a little bit of writing and research this weekend for my first blog post. I have set a due date of July 21st to have the first post published. I still need to pick out a domain and what technology I'm going to use for the blog, like what static site generator should I use, or write, if any, where I want to host it, and all the other, wonderful things that come with having a website. I worked on TAPS a little bit this weekend, but I'd like to have it finished this week. I also have a few more ideas for blog posts that I need to start writing down, most of them involving video games.

Speaking of video games, I'll probably also finish Metro: Last Light this week and install Metro: Exodus this weekend. I'm really enjoying the games so far. I thought about writing a review of the series, but I don't think I've ever actually written a big review like that before and it seems really daunting.

Got my tooth drilled out today. Had my x-ray taken in a machine from the future, I swear. Nicest dental clinic I've ever been to in my life, and it wasn't even the bougiest around. Not a bad price either; only like $400 USD by the time it's done, and that's before insurance. Before I leave (not for quite some time) it might be a good idea to get anything I need done tackled before I go back to the States. My Doc was shit-talking the work I'd previously got done.

"Where was this done? Not Kuwait!"
    "No."
    "Good, good."

Didn't get to make much progress writing this past weekend. Tooth distraction. Gonna work on that this week in my free time, while I'm not re-reading Mistborn.

It's parallelized and super-accurate according to him.

I hate it, but I hate all forms of exercise, and jogging seems like the most economic way to get it over with.

Other than that, I'm looking around for a weekly or bi-weekly board game night to partake in in my neighborhood. I don't think there's one to join, so I might have to start one myself with my neighbors using Nextdoor or something. I hate meeting new people, but all my close friends have mostly moved away, so I'm just gonna try it.

It's a chill week. My partner is on her week off so we're spending most evenings together (until Thursday when Dragon Quest Builders 2 is supposed to be deliver to my house, a day earlier than the release date lol good ol' Canada Post, being weird but finally at my benefit), which Thursday and Friday (or just Friday if I don't receive it Thursday) will be spent playing that.

Eventually planning on restarting my Godot Engine project from scratch, but I don't know if that will happen at all this week.
