What are you doing this week?

This is a place for ongoing discussion about the things you plan to do or have accomplished recently, even if that's nothing at all.

Or, if you want to just talk about how you're feeling, this is a good place to do that too.

You can find last week's topic here.

basically all of this week is gonna be me creating self.tildes threads, lol. i have:

    • the election night thread, tomorrow morning
    • the debate night thread, tomorrow night and wednesday night
    • the creative thread and probably the mental health thread thursday morning

luckily, the only one which takes a lot of effort is the election night thread. other than that i have nothing, so i'll probably just catch up on my extensive book backlog.

We're celebrating my dad's birthday this week! I got him a custom-made engraved pocket knife for his birthday, but it hasn't gotten here yet. Oh well, I'll give it to him when it arrives :)

I just got out of a lazy weekend and I think I'm entering what is going to be a lazy week, because I don't have that many things to get done in the next few days.

For the past week I have been keeping a daily log as a little experiment on myself. I'm recording what I eat and, if possible, the nutritional information for that food, as well as the things I did and didn't do that day, like tasks that got completed or went unfinished, any conversations I had or people I talked to, and the things we talked about. I'm only logging details about physical conversations and phone calls, since digital stuff obviously has its own record. Also, by only logging conversations in real life, I've guaranteed that I won't have that much to log.

Self deprecation aside, I'm going to continue this little experiment for one more week and then decide if I want to keep doing it. Sitting down and recording these few details every night (or even better, throughout the day as they happen) is actually quite easy, but I'm not sure if recording these daily logs will provide me with anything valuable I can use.

On a side note, I was visiting my parents and mentioned that I was keeping these logs. To my surprise, my mother went off and pulled an old calendar out of a box and showed it to me. That calendar was one of dozens that my great grandmother used as her own, personal daily log, in which she recorded a lot of the same information as I am. She died when I was two years old, so I never really met her, but it was pretty cool to discover that similarity between us so randomly.

Oh, I've also been keeping a daily log on my cat as well, not because I'm a weirdo, but because I noticed his eating patterns are off and he is eating less. He's a small cat already, but I can tell he has lost some weight, so I've been logging his eating habits this past week and will continue to do so as we try a few experiments to help him regain his weight. I'm not sure why he would suddenly be eating less or eating at such drastically different times than he normally does. Nothing has gone on that could have stressed him out and he's still very active and playful, but he does seem more mopey and has definitely lost some weight, so it's a little worrying. He has a vet appointment scheduled for later this week, so we will see what they have to say.

Other than that, I have a few programming tasks that I want to get done this week. I've also been thinking about switching my laptop over to Gentoo finally. I've played with Gentoo before and really like it, but it does lack a few packages (and especially development versions of those packages) compared to what I have on Arch. I don't think that should be much of a problem anymore though, because I've been learning how to write ebuilds, maintain my own personal overlay (think repository) of packages, and am definitely interested in becoming a package maintainer for Gentoo.

Finally, I have two writing tasks that I would like to continue working on:

    • Second blog post

Outline is finished, am actually writing it now.

    • Task management program I want to write

"Task management program" probably isn't the best way to describe the idea now, since it has ballooned into a mixture of task management and personal wiki features, using a shared, human readable syntax for its data files that would (hopefully) make writing extensions like calendaring features easier in the future. The whole thing is just an idea for now, but while I have been writing an insane amount of notes on what the program should be and how it should work, I have also been exploring how I might actually go about programming it.

I'll be casting a whole bunch of keycaps to sell, and then making an escape key out of someone's grandmother's ashes. Some might find that unusual, but I have a glass cat statue with our last cat's ashes embedded, so I don't see it as too much different. Kind of a cool and different way to memorialize someone. Definitely the first time working with human remains in my resin shop, though.

Starting a new job I'm not stoked about, and hopefully seeing how my photos fared in a competition I entered them in. Aside from that, not much.

I'm also chipping away at my side-project 30 Hour Jobs. I'm currently in the process of building out a more cohesive version of the site. As well, I need to write this week's newsletter which goes out Friday.

I posted the ~books recurring thread for the last time: acdw will be taking over from now on.

Tomorrow, I will go to Ankara to register at one of the universities I qualified for an MA course. There is a stupid problem regarding paperwork, which will cause the application to have to go through the manual approval of a committee, basically a mismatch between my uni and the other one and my mistake resulted in me submitting a translation of my GPA over 4 to over 100, and the number I submitted is 7/1000 more than what it was supposed to be, apart from the paperwork being mistaken. There is another school I qualified for as a backup, but I don't think they'll refuse me the registration over this. If they do, well, fuck them, it is mostly their fault for not complying with convention and accepting paperwork that all othet schools accept.
