Do you mind if you could tag me as well? I've kept a journal for some years now and I'd like to know more about syncing files and handling dotfiles.

World of Warcraft Classic goes live in ~5 hours and my old MMO guild, which we originally formed in 1999-2000 for Everquest, is almost fully reuniting for it. Although many of us still frequently play various games in small groups together, it's been quite a long time since all of us played an MMO together (SW:TOR or maybe GW2 was the last time, IIRC), so I am super excited! There are about 30 people confirmed to be joining us, a number of whom have taken a week off of work to play. Who knows how long this will last, especially since many of the guild are now married, have kids, have serious jobs, etc... but even still, it should be fun for at least the next week at minimum... Frustrating too, I have no doubt, since it's WoW Classic after all and there are not nearly enough servers for the demand IMO, but still fun. :)

    p.s. Speaking of which, @Deimos, @Bauke, I probably won't be around much the next week+. :P

Taking a break finally. The past three months have been the busiest of my life. A tour + gigging, 2 festivals + another one organized by me and a friend, a handful of beach trips, started a DIY record label, recorded an album, along with miscellaneous adventures and concerts. I think I squeezed the most out of this summer but it has been weighing heavily on my mental health. So my plan for this week and the month of September is to sit back and relax for bit.

Honestly dude that still sounds freaking awesome compared to my summer. It seems to me that you seem to be following your passion which sounds super freaking awesome from my vantage point, especially as I'm trying to make mine somehow into a reality. I hope everything is okay in your headspace though.

Honestly I've always wanted to be something of a renaissance man, and use those talents to help make the world a better place. I guess the problem I'm facing is that I'm running up against the wall of reality. My goal isn't specific enough to really be converted into a feasible major at the college I'm studying at. Which then opens a whole other can of worms I won't get into right now.

Just got back from 3 weeks in the woods. Now that I'm back, I need to mount my new iron sights on my new rifle and zero them, I want to get some work done on a workbench I've been building for a long time, I have a LAN Party over the weekend I still need to prep for, and of course, working as always.
It's going to be a busy one, but it's all fun stuff luckily.

I'm from the southern US, so high heat and humidity are typical, but I like it most of the time. I'd love to be able to get out on my own more often, but I just haven't had the time as of late. I used to be a boy scout, and going out alone in the forest was always one of my favorite things to do. Not sure what a blind march is. I'm assuming that's when you just walk in a random direction? Haven't done that personally, and I never go out without a map and compass, so I'm usually pretty certain where I am and where I'm going.

Well that sounds pretty good to me you know. Better than wasting away in an office. A blind march may be weird to your civilised ears, but it's hugely satisfying (if you manage to finish). Here: you wait for a new moon so it's as dark as it can get - where I lived there was 0 lightpollution so the stars spoiled it a bit, but here's perfect - you take off your clothes and put a peeled onion on a shrub or such, the animals will leave that alone. You go in a straight line for ~2h using only your ears , nose, and touch for immediate awareness; and super-important: the breeze or any shift of air on your skin for orientation. Cut a sharp angle after that, repeat, then try to get back to your startingpoint, with the onion for precise location in the last 75yd or so. (Do not forget to put your dress back on afterwards...)

It would be a pretty good way to get bitten by a snake or fall into a bog around here, not to mention the fact that you'd be torn to ribbons by brambles and whatnot. Have you had any luck finding your way back doing that? I don't think there's any way I would be able to do that unless I was intimately familiar with the area.

Best I've done so far is 19yd off, but that was because something with acute indigestion had messed up my smell cue... It's the best imitation of that feeling when you're in a dangerous spot and all your senses go to 100. Exhilarating, no? I mean, you could be something's snack in a minute where I'm from, but somehow that makes you feel extra-alive. You're a soldier, so you know, right?

I'm trying to re-learn maths, as I'll need to at least be familiar with multivariable calculus and differential equations for one of my exams at uni. It's slow-going, as I have not touched calculus in years. I'm also working on language learning - spoken English and written German, for now - and on familiarizing myself with new programming languages.

My knowledge of computer science is patchy, too, and I oscillate between "I want to go bare metal, all these abstractions are bloat" and "I want to ignore the hardware".

These are my main interests, and always in the background. On the foreground, I tend to stumble across very niche, usually old tools - gopher, troff, nntp - to get curious about them, and to spend days fiddling around with them. If not tools, then ways to do things, like procedural content generation. I was messing around with procedural music generation a few days ago, courtesy of this article, which got awk-ward because I know pretty much nothing about music and sound.

Then there are my periodical forays into knowledge management/organization systems, my attempts at writing at least a complete short story, and the excessive time I spend telling people just why they are wrong on the Internet.

This week is starting late for me because we've been away camping over the bank holiday and we took tuesday off for recovery. But, I just sent out an invoice for a set of wedding rings, so hopefully I'll spend the rest of the week making those. It's a well paying job, if it happens, and I'm reasonably confident it will. I love doing wedding jewellery, it is my favourite thing to make.

Unusually, the customer has asked for three rings, all different sizes. I haven't asked why and of course however people want to do things I'm totally OK with (not to mention it's none of my business anyway) but I must admit to being a little curious.

Hopefully I'll manage to find time to put in a decent amount of distance on my bike too, the long weekend was fun but there was a lot of food involved!

My bandmates and I finally secured a rhythm and lead guitar player and soon we'll be ready to start blowing through learning songs to play for money for gear. I'm so excited to have another piece of this puzzle fall into place and I can't wait to play in front of people.

This week I've been hanging out a lot with a female friend who I'm absolutely enamored with. We click really well together, and we've been hanging out and watching anime/TV at her place late at night. I'm extremely nervous and worried as to when I should tell her my feelings, but I have a feeling she already knows, given that I know how she feels about me. I guess we're just waiting for the other to say it first, haha. Being with her sets my heart alight and I have a feeling something will happen soon. Dunno what, but something.

I was bullied to hell and back in school and it did a number on how I view myself, so I already have a hard time believing I'm desirable enough for someone to want to kiss me. I'm getting better, though. I think I'll do just fine haha

This has been a big week for me on multiple fronts. Mostly good, some not so much. Here goes.

Started a new work schedule. Previously, I had been working 6p-6a Sun-Wed. For the most part, I enjoyed it. I got along with my co workers and because we were working the night shift, it was fairly common to have down time where I could whip out my laptop and play some WoW or my Switch or watch Netflix or something.

Physically, it was starting to wear on me. I haven't been sleeping well for several months now. I got so used to the night shift that even trying to transition to a relatively normal schedule for the back half of my week was almost impossible. I had resorted to taking various sleep aids(melatonin) and was considering stepping it up to something like Ambien. I've had a terrible diet of fast food and diet soda because, even when I was meal prepping, the long hours would inevitably lead me to getting the munchies.

Ultimately, when the last shift bid came around, I chose a new schedule. Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm. It's the first time in years that it's even been offered because it's the first time in a long time that we even have the manpower to allow for it. That started this week and it's been, so far, a good time. I'm slowly getting adjusted and I feel like I'm sleeping better. I'll better be able to watch what I eat and hopefully restart(for the umpteenth time) my weight loss. I'll have time in the morning to workout and I'm even playing softball again in the evenings.

An added benefit is that I was able to re-enroll in school. When I found out that I would be getting that schedule, I re-enrolled in my local community college and realized that I only need 4 classes to finish my associates degree. A small accomplishment but after years starting and stopping because I could rarely afford to attend classes, I'm excited to cross that off my list and perhaps pursue a Bachelors.

Classes have started this week and, even though I'm already somewhat feeling overwhelmed from the work load, I feel more focused than ever simply to knowing how close I am to accomplishing a goal. To piggy back on another commentor, walking around college campuses in Texas, in August, sucks balls. Even in the evening, it's still easily 90+ degrees.

As was already noted by someone else, WoW Classic has launched this week. As someone who never played Vanilla WoW, I'm super excited to give this a try and see where Classic goes.

On a less positive note, I learned that low testosterone is a thing for me and now I'm trying to decide how I want to address it. It certainly could be a cause or contributing factor to many of the issues I've had over the last few years(low energy, increased weight gain, low libido) but I had always just chalked those up to poor diet, poor habits, and a mismatch with the girlfriend on our love life.

Now I'm wondering how much of that might improve with the hormone treatment my doctor recommended.

Building a new prototype hydroponic-adjacent system that I've been designing for the past few weeks.

I have a new day job, and the last management in place was not exactly great. Lots of things to clean, reorganize, and new priorities set. Have a few people I need to hire as well as they were running on a skeleton crew for some odd reason. I have three pages of things that need to be done this month here.

Working on a new file manager with wiki journal capabilities, have a very heavily modified dokuwiki that I outgrew by day two years ago.
Lots more, but haven't fully woken up yet.
