What are you doing this week?

This topic is part of a weekly series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss their week.

If you have any plans, goals, accomplishments, or even failures, whether they be personal or work related, I'd love to hear about them. This is a place for casual discussion about your week, past, present, and future.

A list of all previous topics in this series can be found here.

So, what (or how) are you doing this week?

    First, happy Labor Day!

I don't have classes today, but I accidentally let a piece of homework slip through the cracks and it's due today, so I have to get that done. I also wanted to get a blog post out before August ended, but didn't. So, I'd really like to get that finished and posted today as well.

As for the rest of this week, I don't have any concrete plans aside from attending class and completing any related work that needs to be done, but I've been working ahead and don't think there's anything due this week that hasn't been done already (except for that thing I forgot). So, all I should need to do is show up to class.

I recently set up a MediaWiki instance on my server to experiment with it. I've been comparing different wiki software like MoinMoin, DokuWiki, and MediaWiki. I think MediaWiki is the winner.

I've found that, by recording information for ideas in a wiki format, I have a much easier time understanding and expanding those ideas. However, I don't know if a full fledged, hosted wiki is really what I need for my own personal use. I mean, it's cool and very easy to set up and use, but I think it might be overkill for what I want and I might end up going back to something local or desktop based.

Other than that, I'd like to try out some information management/organization programs I discovered recently:

    • void, a terminal-based personal organizer
    • smos, a purely functional semantic forest editor to replace Emacs Org Mode for getting things done
    • meins, a personal and smart journal

Similar to why I tried out Notion not too long ago, I'd like to give these programs a spin to see what ideas I can "borrow" from them and introduce into my own idea for a personal information management program. I also think they're all just really neat software as well and might actually stick with using one of them.

Finally, I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm going to take a nap!

I just started on my software engineering masters program, the first course being requirements engineering.
Which requires me to read "thinking fast and slow Daniel Kahneman", so I ordered it and am going to read it in the coming weeks.

I do my study part time, so i'm hoping to finish this weeks required reading (4 academic papers), today or tomorrow.

Other than that go to the gym a few times hopefully, and work at my parttime development job.
With my free time I will probably play some video games and watch Netflix.
