Are you giving up anything for Lent?

I'm finally giving up Reddit and trying to do the traditional catholic "fast" which is 2 small snacks and 1 meal a day during lent. I recently learned about the Black Fast which is a sort of Pescatarian vegan-ish, one meal a day fast which looks interesting. I might try it on Fridays but being coeliacs would make it more challenging.

Even though I was at Mardi Gras yesterday, I forgot that Lent starts today! I usually don't give up anything but I like this Reddit idea. I'm going to try!

My grandfather was an observant Catholic and he passed this year. I'll reach out to my father today and maybe we can come up with something to do together. I think I may give up cheese and butter, or maybe any non-water drink (aside from the coffee I need to avoid the headache - don't think I can put up with a week of headaches right now).

Yes, masturbation counts...according to a friend who grew up Catholic. It's also what drove him to discover that Sundays don't count during Lent.

But in all seriousness, no. I never followed Lent before, and I don't expect I'll start now. I have a lot of my life I could give up for it but if I wouldn't normally give it up, Lent wouldn't make that any differ-ent.

EDIT: Black Fast just sounds like a pescatarian version of Ramadan.

Yeah it's similar with no alcohol and eating after dark but Muslims FEAST when Iftar hits and they (or at least the early birds) eat a meal before fajr prayer. Muslims also have to deal with no water which i imagine sucks, i bet watermelon tastes like a gift from heaven after a full day of no food or water..

Ah yeah, that's true. The water thing would be rough. I knew a few people who partook in Ramadan. I can't even imagine.
